Our institution is dedicated to preventing harassment, abuse, and intimidation, thereby upholding the dignity of work for all employees and students. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where all staff and students can work and learn free from harassment, fostering higher productivity and a better quality of life at work.

Understanding Harassment

Harassment, as defined by the Act, includes but is not limited to:

  • Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, stalking, or cyberstalking.

  • Verbal, visual, or written communication or physical conduct of a sexual nature.

  • Sexually demeaning attitudes causing interference with work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment.

  • Discrimination based on gender, which may or may not be sexual in nature but results in discriminatory behavior against the complainant.

Manifestations of Harassment

The policy recognizes three significant manifestations of harassment:

1. Abuse of Authority: Demand by a person in authority for sexual favors in exchange for job benefits.

2. Creating a Hostile Environment: Conduct or discrimination based on gender that interferes with an individual’s work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment.

3. Retaliation: Acts of retaliation against a complainant refusing to grant sexual favors, impacting the employee’s career or work environment negatively.

Filing a Complaint

  • Preparation: Complainants should familiarize themselves with the harassment definition and only file a complaint if the incident aligns with the definitions provided by the Act.

  • Contents of the Complaint: Should include a comprehensive statement of facts, supporting documents or evidence, names of witnesses, and any other relevant information.

  • Verification: The complainant must verify that the information provided is true and correct to the best of their knowledge.

  • Submission: Complaints should be signed or thumb-printed by the complainant and submitted to harassment.protection@lmi.education.
